The Big Snip

OK first let me say: I do feel bad. I really, really feel bad that my husband is in the living room, sitting on an ice pack drinking tea and watching Californication On-Demand.  I do.

Did I make this at 8am while he was showering for the doctor's office? Maybe.

Did I grab my camera as we were going out the door? Yup. But if I hadn't I wouldn't have been able to post THIS:
which may be one of the funniest photos ever.

As we were discussing the procedure with the doctor and they were going back and forth about the injection and how much would it hurt: for just a second or for a few seconds and then would it still hurt and for how long I said, "but probably it won't hurt as much as, say, childbirth." And we all agreed, yes, probably not that much.

So right now I'm blogging in the office and he's shouting at me from the living room about how much "action" he's going to deserve because of this. How I better start taking my vitamins now. And could I maybe get him some chicken noodle soup.

Vasectomy co-pay: $125
Ice pack from CVS: $3
Pain medication: $20
Not storing pre-natal vitamins next to your wrinkle cream: priceless.

I will have to agree..that is probably one of the funniest pics ever!!!

Question: Is is sanitary to cook the bag of frozen peas after they have been sitting on balls all day?

Anonymous said...

When my hubby had his V he came home, drank a 6-pack, popped some of his pain meds, turned on a western, and packed on the peas. He stayed there all weekend, and I didn't feel one bit guilty. I am evil like that. Oh and there will be bruising, lots of it. Be prepared.

Wow nutty. Ha pardon the pun! How long does it take to fully recuperate from such a thing anyways?

Girl, you are so much nicer than I am. When Sweetie had it done, I tossed him a bag of frozen peas on my out the door to PAARRTAY.

Love the pic...priceless. You're a lucky gal..I'm gonna be on the pill till I'm 80! My husband refuses to do the "snip-snip." Mostly b/c if I drop dead he still has a chance to carry on his name...

I'm in the minority here. Babies are wonderful. The more, the better.

He does deserve a *coughblowjobcough* Mojito though-he kept you from having to take medication indefinitely or from having what for womyn is a much more invasive and dangerous surgery or unwanted pregnancy! Way to go, dude!

Aye man to that! Wish mine wasn't such a chicken!

found you @ Livin and Lovin.

I will make sure my husband doesn't read this- HE refuses to neuter himself. Can't figure out why he is so opposed to fixing the dog though.

I giggled thru that whole post. Silly girl that I am. ;)

I like how easy you make it all sound!! I also love how you publicized it to the whole wide world.

Sigh.

I wish my hubs would get one so I could get some good blog material out of it.....

Hubs had his done over Thanksgiving weekend. Went in on Wednesday, laid in the son's bedroom for three days watching football and enjoying the pain meds.

Funny how men are treated. Go in for a a 1/4 inch incision and snip a tube and he gets valium and Lortabs with 3 refills. I only had 1/2 of one prescrption filled and never told him about the remaining 2 1/2 bottles.

I have a lump cut out of my side the size of an egg and incisions thru skin and 2 layers of muscles and I am told to take Advil and rest.

Men are such babies.

My hubby had "The Big V" almost a year ago. He said it wasn't the most pleasant thing he ever did, but it really wasn't that bad. He only spent a day or so resting on the couch and then he was completely back to normal.

Great pic! I am dreaming of the day when the spouse gets it done. He's too much of a wuss at this point.

Meg said...

I must show this post to my spouse as proof that I DO NOT reveal too much about the family on my blog.

Compared to others.

But yah, have some fun!

rofl, that's freaking fantastic. You blogging while he's getting snipped. Classic. That picture is great also! ;)

My hubby's not all about the sympathy, so I'm hoping he won't milk it when it's his turn. And yes, someday, it will be his turn. Just as soon as I decide when we're done having kids.

LMAO - This was a great post ~ thanks for the Friday laugh. Great picture and story. Hehe.. and the "Californication" ~ Greg has watched that too. Seems a lot of guys like that movie.

Love the ending of your post - THAT was priceless!

Oh this is great blog fodder!! But no pics of hubby...just kidding! Tell him to push an egg out of his penis and we'll all have more sympathy for him. Just putting it in relative terms!

You need to watermark that picture. Hilarious!

That pic is priceless! Why do we enjoy the thought of inflicting pain on their package so much?
Crap, I divorced a cheating hobag I know that answer...

Love it!!!! I have a great story about Bud Man getting snipped but it's kinda x-rated. Maybe I'll blog it.

My husband would kill me if he knew I was telling you this... BUT,

When he had his vasectomy done a few years ago... the nurse complimented him on his shaving job. Said it was probably the best she had ever seen!

Oh, and the tissue picture is a RIOT!

Tenakim said...

Mine is a pussy- no way would he do that- Hope your not selling your house (like in Californication when the realtor walked in on him cooling his "business" with the ice tray- that was priceless!)

Jen said...

Sometimes, just for fun, I bring up the subject of getting it reversed. "Honey, wouldn't it be fun to just have one more?" I love watching his reaction.

Oh and no, I didn't feel guilty AT ALL. Why would you? I'm sorry, but the little needle is quick and over, where labor lasts hours, and the recovery is days. This is nothing compared to what we have to go through.

Unknown said...

I can laugh at this since I'll never have to worry about getting it done. Time to break out the drinks!

Blessings From Above said...

Love the pictures of the tissue boxes. But you are too nice, I would been taking pictures of my husband in his gown. Or at least on the couch afterwards. ;)

Your response about hurting less than childbirth was right on. Men are such babies!

heh heh heh.

Great pix. Prance around naked and tell him you wished he felt better...

Can he do a post-op post? Just so my hubby knows what he is in for in the future?

Swirl Girl said...

Now he'll really know what blue balls are all about!

when my 48 year old girl friend told me her husband was getting a vasectomy I immediately said "Congratulations" - not because he was getting snipped, but because she is 48 - still has a lot of sex still and thought she was pregnant! Lucky girl, that one!

funny pics

ummm i hope you all have a back up plan for the month that there are still live sperm lol lot of guys say that they're told they should whack off to help w that problem.

my ex was going to get a vasectomy. he was very wussy about it though. he said, 'do you know how sensitive my balls are?' in the end, i got the tubal because i was done having babies and the fact that they said a backup birth control plan was needed since there would still be live sperm. tubals are instant.

it's funny, we did that because we both said we didn't want anymore kids. then he goes and has an baby a year ago (all of his kids, our two, and the one w his first x, are half or almost grown..soon to be 16, 12, and 10)

ha ha @ tenakim saying pussy. i was going to say that about my ex, but thought i shouldn't lol

That Picture is funny on soooo many levels.

In sympathy, put Mr Bill on the Couch beside hubby with a little frozen pea underneath him. OOOOH NOOOO.

Did BG jump the crib! How about the dog!

BTW, I love the photo too.

After giving birth three times naturally, my sympathies will be oh so limited for hubby's vasectomy pain...

That's funny since "Hank" got a "v" on "Califonication" on Sunday night... funniest thing was when he took the whole I tray out and put it on his "boo boo"!!!

The picture was priceless as well!!

Susan said...

Oh yeah, one more thing... One of my best friends hubby had one after kid #4 and was too lazy to go back to make sure he was shooting blanks and #5 just started 4year old kindergarten this year... Don't forget to MAKE him go back, otherwise he'll think everything is "fine" and you'll end up with the prenatal vitamins next to your wrinkle cream again!!! Good Luck!

My hubby had it done a couple years ago and I had NO sympathy!

Hilarious! I love the pic! And the subject of vasectomy. My hubby is using his vacation days for one very, very soon! Congratulations on worry-free whoopie!

I now just need to hear the comments BG may have had about this situation.

OMG, that picture is so funny!

And also how funny that Hank on Californication also got a vasectomy this week!

My husband and I were also just talking about the whole vasectomy issue and we (I) think it's a great idea after we are done with the babies. It's a small price for them to pay for us dealing with ALL the child bearing and birth control, right??

Shelley said...

My husband was too chicken shit to consider that option. I think his exact words were "No needle is going near the family jewels, ever." As a result, we have a lovely 6 year-old, who is 10 years younger than her oldest sister, and who caused the doctor to utter the words "advanced maternal age" at me. Luckily she was a planned C, which is an extremely convienent way to get your tubes tied. Baby out, snip snip.

What I didn't understand is why they couldn't do the big V back in 2000, when he had his knee replaced. I mean, he was already unconcious, so what the hell?

Nicole said...

lol. My husband had his done last year and passed out during the procedure! What a puss. Now we both have baby fever. I dont see him getting a reversal done anytime soon!!!

Tasha said...

Eh. He'll be as good as new in a week. It's a friggin flesh wound. :P I know! When my DH had it, it was soooo incredibly liberating. Congrats!

You make me laugh too much.

hubs just got his done about 4 months ago....best thing ever (for me). Same experience except I didn't have peas, I had a bag of frozen blackberries. Put those on his boys and then about an hour later I saw him walking around and I saw that he had this huge red/purple spot on his groin. I freaked and thought he was hemmorraging. Nope, you guessed it, it was the blackberries.

Great post.

Heather said...

We will one day do a V - hubs has already told me "it's only fair," which I seem to think it is less than fair (hmmmm....3 pregnancies with months of vomitting, sciatica throughout, agony in the breasts and then the mofo of them all, labor and delivery vs. an outpatient procedure with a day or two of tenderness - not exactly FAIR) but yes - I say it is a reasonable trade when folks are done making babies.

I have an award for you on my blog.
Thanks for entertaining me.

I had my husband get the big snip just weeks after my son was born!!!! And then he had the nerve to show me in "incisions" I had paper cuts worse, deal with it. If he wants to see an incision I'll show him the cut across my stomach that his two children were born from LOL. I am pretty lucky though in that he has a high pain tolerance. I bought lots of frozen peas and he never even used them! We actually went shopping at Lowes the same day HAHA!

And woohoo to your husband getting it done. My husband an appointment in Jan 06--the same month I found out about #4 ;)

I just have to say this about when my husband had his vasectomy. I talked to the gal about calming him down for the procedure. She informed me that they could issue him some valium once he got into the office...to which I responded "I don't need it once he's there! I need it to get him IN THE CAR!!" He STILL tells horror stories to any man that will listed about the procedure. And it was over 11 yrs ago!! Yeah, I got the whole "you'd better be ready, I'm gonna want action more often now that I'm shootin' blanks" speech, too. Don't sweat it, it fades. HA! The great thing is, I had his appointment for surgery already scheduled that day my daughter was born. He was "snipped" when she was 2 wks old.

My husband was the biggest baby you ever saw. He lay in bed all weekend, then complained about the pain for weeks afterwards.

Oh, and he told me NEVER to tell anyone he had it done.

Still trying to get my husband to go...he's hoping menopause will kick in before he finally gets around to it. I love the whole "not as painful as childbirth" comment...way to give them some perspective.

Raging Dad said...

I know this is an old post, but yeah, ditto on the bruising warning. I never imagined my junk could turn those colors. It did hurt, quite a bit actually. And having an attractive nurse paint iodine on my freshly shorn nuts is definitely an experience I will be glad to never have again.

The only upside: there really is nothing as wonderful as having a freshly shorn set of balls. I recommend it to all my dad friends now, and it really isn't hard to do at all.

TMI? Sorry...!

Man oh man I have been wanting my husband to do this forever. He had surgery for sleep apnea and I was hoping they could snip him while he was out but no dice.
