Pervy Craft Project

I heard on the radio that there was some big hoopla a few weeks ago over Starbucks unveiling a new version of their logo.

 old logo new logo

Not sure why they felt the need to change the logo, I'm pretty sure that feisty little company might just make it, but anyway. This Christian group called "The Resistance" has their knickers in a twist saying the mermaid is "topless with her legs spread". Um, have a mojito, 'The Resistance'.....it's just a drawing.

Anyhoo...it reminded me of this awesome craft we used to do as kids back when there was no Nintendo or Disney Channel. Or parental supervision.

Start with an empty butter box.

Cut the knees off..

Cut the indian maiden's butter box on 3 sides.

Tape the knees to the back.

And........

TA-DA!!!!!!!!!!

Don't tell The Resistance.

p.s. Mom- it was Janie Hueffed's idea.

  1. Found your blog a few days ago. So funny! I have a question, though, since when do mermaids have legs?

  2. LOL ... omg, now that's funny! You're crazy. But in a good way.

  3. I love it, I may go buy the butter just to try it.

I knew it, if I'd only turn the tv off and take away the Nintendo DS's the kids would find creative things to do!

I'm with formercitygirl, how can she be a mermaid and have legs??

  7. oh my gosh! you crack me up! that janie hueffed...she was always coming up with the good stuff!

  8. Awesome! I can remember doing that in my debauched youth.

Is the Starbucks logo switch an attempt to keep from going under?!? I think I'll visit more often just to cheese 'The Resistance' off.

  9. LOL. That's funny. Here's one we did when I was younger here in LA.
There's a fast food joint called In and Out Burger, and the give out bumper stickers. With a little sticker magic they come out to In and Out Urge.

    The things kids think of...

    ReplyDelete
  10. HAHHAHA! Never thought of that one! Gotta go to the store now!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ha! That Janie! Always making you do things you didn't want to do!

  13. See? You don't need to send your kids off to camp...it may not be reading with dandelion bookmarks, but you clearly have the arts and crafts hour going on....

  14. O. M. G. I need Ben to give me CPR again. That is so funny! And I even have a pound or two of that butter waiting in the fridge for me to play with. WOO HOO!

  15. HAHA!
    I love it!
And you ask a really good question, why did starbuck's suddenly find the need to give themselves a new image? Maybe it was only to rile up "The Resistance". Maybe it's all one big conspiracy

  16. I am running to do this right now. RIGHT NOW!

You know boobie jokes are the way to my heart!

  19. HAHAHAHAHAH!

That was great! Totally wasn't expecting that which made it totally great!

  20. I totally remember doing that with you! In fact once, fairly recently, for a brief moment I was tempted to teach my kids, but then I thought better of it. I guess I must be pretty hard up for craft ideas. Definitely not one for playdates!

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOL! I remember hearing about this but we were a country crock family so I never got to try it!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Land o p0rn is more like it!

I thought "Piltdown" made a nice last name for you. As I recall, the Piltdown Man was an archaeological hoax a while back. You can look it up.

And you're secretly a killing machine.

  23. omg that is great..I am so gonna do this! hahaha

  24. This is hilarious! I love your dirty little mind!!!!!

  25. My brother and I used to do that all the time when were we kids...I am cracking up...haven't thought of that in decades! We would just fold the box up...but the "boobs" in a box is totally awesome.

  26. Ha Ha Ha! How creative!! I missed that one in underground summer camp. Another great post, Sue!

  27. go check out my blog, got something for ya! :)

  28. So THAT'S how mermaids do it!! Damn, I am so regretting turning that one down a few years back. I figured a nice rack and tail smacking would get old fast.

(you crack me up like I haven't been crack'd in a long time)

  29. I dunno, I think the new logo more accurately represents what you are letting them do to you when you pay $4 for a cup of coffee.

Also-- my roomates and I once got in trouble for rearranging the letters on a sign at the end of the hall to say something 'off-color'. We went to a Christian school and our RA was an elementary ed major, so our floor always looked like a third grade classroom, which we hated. As punishment, WE had to decorate the hall. Heh heh. Nothing as good as your butterbox, but it was very surreal (we covered all the recessed lighting with colored saran wrap and hung hundreds of origami birds from the ceiling) and people came from all over campus to see it. Methinks you'd have been an awesome addition to our team.

  30. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! OMG! That's hilarious! Found my way thru SITS and when I need a good laugh, I come here. I love the Happy Nail post the best!

  31. I totally used to do that when I was a kid! Seeing the land o'lakes box in the fridge still makes me feel kinda funny....

  32. That is hilarious!

As for the Starbucks logo - look closely at the first one, The Resistance, it is the same mermaid, doing the same thing she always has been, she's just not as restricted by her neighboring circles anymore. It is a rendering, for crying out loud, not like they have nips or omg, a real model! Get a life

    ReplyDelete
  33. OK- that's hilarious- I haven't seen that before!

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL - I am SO going to buy it just so I can do the craft and show the Hubz. He'll get a kick out of it, him and his horny bastard self.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't think I ever noticed the old logo. I thought it was always the smaller one. Hmmm, I don't really do the Starbucks thing anyhow. I think their doing really well even without me, or a logo change.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That is flippin' hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Guess what I'm going to do tonight? Why, a little butter box crafting, of course!

Only this will be a parental activity done WHILE the kids are Nintendo-ing and Disney Channel surfing. hee hee

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am crafting tonight, baby!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sue, I think that should be your first lesson when you teach Scrapbooking 101...

HA!! This was so funny, I even had to share with McDaddy!

    ReplyDelete
  40. All I see are two fish, going up on either side of her, and it does NOT make me want a cup of coffee.

It just makes me think of what fish do in the water..........that coffee is made with.

    ReplyDelete
  41. wait. first.

    MUAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!

ok 2nd...what the hell does a mermaid w/ a parasitic twin have to do w/ coffee?? what great marketers they have over there at Starbucks...although they do make millions a day- so who am i to judge?
I'm a Dunkin Donuts girl myself...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just me...stopping by to say Happy Pow!

Can I pour you a glass of wine? A shot of Patron? Too early? How about a Bloody Mary then?

    ReplyDelete
  47. OMG!!! this is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I will definitely have to try this at home!

    Happy POW!

    ReplyDelete
  48. That is hilarious.

If only we had that brand of butter here.

That is a craft even my husband would get on board with.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow. My dad would love this little doozie of a trick. Amazing. Simply amazing. Who'd 'da thought?
    Happy POW!

  52. oh my lordy that's freakin HYSTERICAL!! lol!

    ReplyDelete
  53. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm SO doing that now!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. That is so freakin' hillarious! Now, I have to know if you've taught your children and how old exactly where you when *you* first learned of this project?

Man, why do I not have THAT butter in my fridge.

    ReplyDelete
  55. That is freaking hilarious. I have never seen anything like it but I will be trying it.
Silly me, I thought it was a mermaid with two tails.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That is super funny! Thanks for the butter trick (I have few of my own butter tricks, but I don't want the Resistance to come knockin' on my door). Happy POW!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Okay, that may be one of the funniest things EVER. (Or maybe it's just the two glasses of Chardonnay talking?) Either way, I cannot wait to show my husband this post. Because I know it will: make. his. DAY!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I can't do anything anymore without an audience. Do you think it would be inappropriate to do the butter craft with my 4 year old? You know, turn it into a family activity?

As for the SB logo- there must've been someone really pissed off that his rendition didn't get picked in the beginning, and now that SB is pretty solid, started a campaign to bring it back. And won. Aside from legs, I didn't know that mermaids had two fins!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I've never been much into crafts, but then I never knew that they could be so flippin' hilarious!
The whole mermaid drawing thing is just bizarre to begin with. Whatever. Why do we need to have a drawing on the side of the coffee cup anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Okay, first of all, you had way too much time on your hands as a kid...
    That is so hilarious!

I don't know what the whole starbucks thing is about either and the fundamental activists will always find something wrong with just about everything. Oh, well, I just miss the green on the cup - black and white is a bit boring.

    ReplyDelete
  61. What a great craft idea, thanks for the laugh!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Who knew you had a little Martha in you?
    Hysterical!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. SO HYSTERICAL!!!

    OMG!

I wonder if I do this and just casually stick in back in the fridge, if my husband will ever notice....

    hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Awesome. I'm doing this with my kids in art camp tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  65. good stuff... as a side note this is the original starbucks logo that wasn't received so well and evolved in to what it is now...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow ... I thought my mom was the only one that did that .. she swore that she wasn't, but I didnt believe her at the time.

She showed that little trick to me one night, in the presence of my fiance. Just a _little_ embarrassing at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Redemption! My Dad used to do that all the time. I remember when I was too little to see it and I'd see my Dad and brother by the butter snickering. Good times.
